The English Cricket Board (ECB) has asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to elaborate the termsand conditions, which are applicable to the banned Pakistani fast bowler, Mohammad Amir.
Amir confirmed earlier that he has appeared in a friendly match, which was played for Addington, in theSurrey Cricket League Division One.
He further disclosed that he was assured by the club organisers about the status of the match. He was convinced that by taking part in the said match he will not be breaching the ICC code of conduct.
The ECB has contacted the ICC for the exact situation and their comments about the nature of ban and the type of matches he can take part or if he can play any match? They have also contacted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to look into the matter as it relates to one of their players.
One senior official of the PCB has confirmed they are closely following the issue but no immediate steps will be taken. Amir went to England last month in connection with the legal aid of his case and PCB was fully aware of his presence there but they were never informed by him about taking part in the match.
He further commented:
“We are waiting to see what happens but if Amir has gone and violated the terms of his sanction unknowingly that is something we have to look at”.Amir was banned for five years in connection with spot fixing in a Test match between Pakistan and Englandon 29th of August, 2010, at the “home of cricket” Lord’s.
Hype was created in the media all around the world and finally he was found guilty along with Mohammad Asifand Salman Butt, both of them were also banned from playing cricket by ICC for a certain period.
The official of the PCB clearly indicated that the banned players should know about the limitations imposed by ICC.
“As far as we are concerned the ICC bans specifically states that a banned player cannot play in any event or tournament that is organized, sanctioned or approved by the home board or its affiliated units”, the official said.
